Therapy Approach

My style is interactive and goal-oriented. I use evidence-based models to help clients work towards their goals. I focus on overcoming the obstacles that prevent growth and self-awareness, which is necessary to feeling better and improving well-being and quality of life. With the client, we examine behaviors and how they affect interactions with family, work, friends and intimate relationships. We work towards changing negative behaviors and beliefs that can hold you back and replace them with positive , life enriching ones. All work is done at the client’s pace. Homework may be given between sessions to help foster an understanding of the skills learned in session and reduce conflicts or negative habits in the areas we are working on.

Consider setting up a consultation to talk more about what brought you to my Practice.

Couples Therapy

Here are some signs couples therapy could help.

  • You don’t feel heard by your partner

  • You are unable to have healthy communication, there is yelling, hurtful comments made to each others and don’t know how to change things

  • You have arguments resulting in days or weeks where you and your partner are not talking

  • You find you are fighting more times than you get along, and/or as a result, maybe your children are absorbing your fighting and showing signs of anxiety, depression or anger

  • You feel you contribute to the relationship more than your partner, where’s the balance?

  • My partner is controlling or there are trust issues

  • There is a history of childhood trauma, attachment issues, that affect the relationship

  • Feeling frightened, unsafe, difficulty getting close

    Here’s what could help:

  • Learn to develop and increase self-capacity, emotional regulation, resolution of couple distress

  • Strengthen couple relationships through evidence-based, skills based psychoeducation

Let’s examine these patterns, there are solutions that can repair and strengthen your relationships. I bring in the Gottman Method and Developmental Couples Therapy for Complex Trauma (DCTCT ) among other skills into couples therapy.

Trauma Therapy

What is Trauma?

The emotional response to an event or series of events, affecting an individual’s ability to integrate overwhelmed experiences resulting from a threat to life, bodily integrity and or ability to cope.

Just a few symptoms caused by trauma

  • Feeling stuck in present or past from deeply distressing experience(s)

  • Struggle with feelings of panic or anxiety

  • You have repeated nightmares or difficulty sleeping

  • Intrusive childhood memories that plague you today, or little to no memories of your childhood

  • You have unhealthy behaviors or addictive patterns to mask your emotional pain, interfering with quality of life.

  • It is hard to regulate your emotions causing difficulty with relationships with family, friends and/or at work

  • Low self esteem, avoidance, sadness, anger, fear, social withdrawal, changes in habits

  • You sometimes feel disconnected from yourself or others, or feeling like you are always running away

  • You have past memories that feel so real, you feel you are reliving them in the present moment

  • You feel like you are in a fog or trance like daze at times, feel like you loose time in the present

These situations can be overwhelming and confusing. Having a plan to work on these symptoms may help you manage, reduce, or maybe even eliminate them over time in therapy and to finally feel some relief. There are steps you can take to help you regain more control of your life.

EMDR may help you reprocess your trauma.

What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) is an evidence base intervention, meaning it has been researched and studied proven to be effective for distressing experiences. Here are just some of the areas EMDR can help with; Attachment Issues, Chronic Pain, Depression, Dissociation, Grief, PTSD, CPTSD, OCD, Panic and Anxiety Disorder, Phobias, Self-Esteem, Social Anxiety, and more. EMDR follows a structured Eight Phase Protocol that takes the client gently through working on distressful present or past distressing memories/experiences. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (BLS), in the form of using hand tapping, eye movement, or hearing selected sounds. BLS is used while the client focuses on the distressing memory/experience. The BLS actually activates the brain’s relaxation response, and this reduces the memory’s emotional charge, making it manageable to revisit and reprocess it. This process integrates the distressing memory so it no longer feels overwhelming and the memory/experience is then associated with a more accurate positive belief rather than the negative belief that limited you from living a more joyful life. This is not hypnosis, everything is coming out from inside of you by you, to finally release the negative impact it has had on you all this time.

If this resonates with you, consider setting up a consultation, I would be happy to answer any questions you may have on how EMDR may be helpful to you.

About

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the states of Florida and New York. I have also completed training as a Health and Life Coach.

I believe my path to becoming a therapist started back in my high school years as I realized I was interested in why people do what they do. I began noticing classmates and other student’s behaviors and their consequences. I had such a strong interest in human behavior, that majoring in Psychology in undergrad made sense. With wanting to know more in this area, I then went on to earning a Master of Social Work degree (clinical track) at New York University and graduated in 2011.

Through internships and volunteering, I worked with clients with a broad range of mental health conditions. During those years, I worked in community mental health clinics, day treatment programs, residential treatment programs, and an assisted living facility. Once obtaining my social work license, I worked at a three neighborhood counseling centers where I offered individual and family therapy, held therapeutic groups, and briefly provided on-call domestic violence support at a local hospital’s emergency room. As my career and passion in this work progressed, I started my private practice in 2018.

When I am not working, I enjoy being in nature, going for walks and biking, reading, being with family and friends, meditation/yoga, and listening to different types of music.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my therapy take?

There is no set number of sessions that I can perfectly predict for the length of your therapy.  The goal is to help you reach your goals. This depends on what you want to work on and the time you invest in your therapy. By this I mean, consistently showing up for sessions and doing the work in and outside of therapy. How long your therapy will take also depends on if we are working on, present issues or deep seeded issues from childhood. The goal is to be as short as possible, however, therapy can take months or up to a year or more depending on your personal situation. I bring to our sessions, my training, experiences as a therapist, lived experiences, along with creativity and evidence-based skills to assist you in reaching your goals. Session length is 45 minutes.

Do you accept insurance?

I am in network with Aetna, NYCE PPO, United Health Care, Oxford and UMR for Individual Therapy. Client’s with other insurances not listed, and those wanting Couples Therapy, are through private pay.

What is your session fee and do you have a late cancellation fee/no-show fee?

My session fees are with in the average range in this field for the different services I provide. We can discuss your fee at your consultation. Since your appointment is reserved only for you, I do have a 24-hour late cancellation fee/no-show fee. In the event you cancel less than 24 hours, that would not give me enough time to offer that appointment to another client who is in need of it. My cancellation fee/no shows fee is $75. 00, which is considerably less than the average cancellation fee in this field.

My goal is to provide support and quality care to my clients. If you have any questions, please reach out, I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
