Frequently Asked Questions

These are some of the questions I hear most often. If you don't find what you're looking for here, please don't hesitate to reach out — I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

ABOUT THERAPY

  • There is no set number of sessions I can perfectly predict for the length of your therapy. The goal is to help you reach your goals — and this depends on what you want to work on and the time you invest in your therapy. By this I mean consistently showing up for sessions and doing the work in and outside of therapy. How long therapy takes also depends on whether we are working on present issues or deep-seated issues from childhood. The goal is to be as short as possible, however, therapy can take months or up to a year or more depending on your personal situation. I bring to our sessions my training, experiences as a therapist, lived experiences, along with creativity and evidence-based skills to assist you in reaching your goals. Session length is 45 minutes

  • The first session is a chance to get to know each other. We'll talk about what brought you in, what you've been experiencing, and what you're hoping to work on. It's also a chance for you to ask questions. There will be an intake at the first session, which is just me asking questions to help me understand you, your past, present and future goals. There's no pressure to go anywhere you're not ready to go.

  • Most clients meet weekly, especially when starting out.

Consistency helps build momentum, trust and change.

As things improve, we may shift to every other week or a maintenance schedule — we'll make that decision together based on where you are.

  • There may be. Between sessions, I may give homework to help foster an understanding of the skills learned in session and reduce conflicts or negative habits in the areas we are working on. Everything is adapted to what feels manageable for you.

  • Yes — all sessions are telehealth only, via secure Zoom.

Meta-analysis and other studies indicate no significant difference in effectiveness between virtual and in-person care.  Many people actually find it easier to access and more comfortable.

You can join from wherever feels most private.

  • I see clients ages 21 and older. I work with a wide range of mental health conditions — anxiety, trauma, PTSD/CPTSD, dissociation, couples issues, life transitions, self-esteem, social anxiety, panic disorder, and more.

INSURANCE & FEES

  • I am in-network with the following plans for individual therapy:

    • Aetna

    • NYCE PPO

    • United Health Care

    • Oxford

    • UMR

    • Optum

    • Due to the insurance obstacles and limitations in providing couples therapy, I see couples through Private Pay

    • Clients with insurance not listed, I see through Private Pay

  • My session fees are within the average range in this field for the different services I provide. We can discuss your fee at your consultation. I'm happy to answer questions about cost openly — I don't want that to be a barrier to reaching out.

  • Since your appointment is reserved only for you, I do have a 24-hour late cancellation and no-show fee. In the event you cancel less than 24 hours in advance, that would not give me enough time to offer that appointment to another client who is in need of it.

My cancellation fee is $75.00 — which is considerably less than the average cancellation fee in this field.
